Brace yourselves Canada two of the worlds best light heavyweights are coming to Toronto.
Current champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title inside Toronto’s Air Canada Center against the hardest hitting fighter on the planet, Anthony Johnson. The fight was announced on Wednesday nights edition of UFC Tonight.
The two men have already squared off once before, at UFC 187 last year. In the bout the two fought for the vacant 205-pound strap after Jon Jones was stripped and suspended after various legal issues. That night belonged to Cormier who submitted Johnson in the third round to become the new champion.
Cormier (18-1) has defended his belt one time, a split decision win over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192. A bout with former champion Jon Jones was to go down at UFC 200 but a potential USADA violation forced Jones to be pulled from the fight just days before the event. A late replacement was found in Anderson Silva who dropped the bout via a unanimous decision.
Johnson (22-5) is bringing a huge wave of momentum into this rematch thanks to 3 straight devastating knockout wins, the most recent of which was a 13-second distruction of Glover Teixeira at UFC 202. Prior to UFC 202 ‘Rumble’ had knocked out both Ryan Bader and Jimi Manuwa ensuring his position in line to face the champion.
