According to a source close to the situation, the fight between Slice and Thompson would “headline or co-headline he U.K card”.
May 31, 2008. Kimbo Slice and James Thompson went back and forth in the EliteXC cage. A fight in which Kimbo was victorious via third-round TKO. Although things weren’t all going Kimbo’s way he managed to land a huge combination that forced the referee to step in and call the fight.
Fate seems to have intervened as both Slice and Thompson are both signed to Bellator, where the rematch is being targeted for the promotions debut in the United Kingdom. The first fight had ground breaking viewership numbers and the rematch could well do better.
Thompson (20-16) last fought in December where he lost to Tsuyoshi Kohsaka at Rizin Fighting Federation 1: Day 1, in Saitama Japan. The heavy handed Brit is known for throwing heavy leather regardless of if he gets the win or not. With 11 K.O wins to his name the former Pride FC fighter has a very underrated ground game which could cause Kimbo some issues.
Slice (6-2) is coming off of his Bellator 149 TKO victory of former friend Dada 5000 last month in Houston Texas. Also known for his heavy hands, Slice has 4 of his pro MMA wins via KO. The former UFC and TUF veteran, like Thompson, has previously welcomed a possible rematch.
