The UFC 197 main event is back on. Promotional president Dana White announced to ESPN that rising star Ovince St. Preux is to step in for the injured Daniel Cormier and fight Jon Jones for the Interim light heavyweight title.
St. Preux (19-7) takes the fight on just under 3-weeks notice. Last in action in February where he bested Rafael Calvacante via unanimous decision, the 32 year-old has won four of his last six outings. A dangerous and talented fighter this is a huge step up in competition for the Tennessee native.
The former champion Jones (21-1) has not been inside the octagon since January of 2013 where he beat Daniel Cormier via unanimous decision. Legal woes have unfortunately kept him out of action and the it seemed the injury to Cormier would do the same but thanks to quick work from the promotion he gets his wish and stays on the card.
