Tyron Woodley is finally the title fight he has long campaigned for.
Heavy hitters will Collide in Atlanta on June 30 when Robbie Lawler will defend his welterweight belt against fellow slugger Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC201.
The promotion announced the news late Tuesday night.
Lawler (27-10, 1 NC) is bringing an impressive five- fight winning streak into this, his third title defence. Previously defending his belt against Rory MacDonald and most recently against Carlos Condit in what is widely considered to be a top runner for fight of the year,Lawler had been linked to fights with Conor McGregor as well as a rematch with Condit but will now have his eyes firmly set on a tough new opponent.
Woodley (15-3) has been out of action since his unanimous decision win over Kelvin Gastelum back in January last year. Prior to that Woodley has won four of his last five outings, including a stoppage of Carlos Condit. It’s been a long tedious road for Woodley but at last he has the shot he so firmly believes he should have had months ago.
UFC 201 takes place on Saturday, June 30 from the Phillips Arena in Atlanta. The card will be headlined by the welterweight title fight between Robbie Lalwer and Tyrone Woodley.
